504 Accommodation Plans
A 504 plan is a blueprint for how the school will provide supports and remove barriers for a student with a disability, so the student has equal access to the general education curriculum (understood.org, 2018).
504 Basics:

- 504 Plans will not change with whom or where your child learns, but rather how they are accessing and/or demonstrating their learning in their normal classroom setting.

-Plans & accommodations are drafted & decided upon by the collective 504 team- typically consisting of the case manager (school counselor), the student's teachers, parents, and any additional staff members who are knowledgeable about the student & their condition.
-The plan is reviewed at least once a year, and can be edited/amended at any time.

-It travels with your child throughout their schooling so that the supports consistently stay in place.

-504 Plans are recognized and supported even at the college level.
